Hwange National Park is Zimbabwe’s largest and oldest national park, covering over 14,600 square kilometers of diverse landscapes—from semi-arid scrublands to teak forests and open savannahs. Located in the northwest of the country, near the border with Botswana and not far from Victoria Falls, Hwange is a cornerstone of Zimbabwe’s conservation efforts.
The park is famed for its vast elephant herds, as well as large populations of lions, leopards, buffalo, and endangered species like the African wild dog. It’s also a birdwatcher’s paradise, with over 400 recorded species. Unlike some parks, Hwange offers year-round game viewing, with dry season concentrations around waterholes providing especially dramatic wildlife encounters.
