Destination: Great Zimbabwe
Great Zimbabwe is a remarkable archaeological site and a symbol of African heritage and ingenuity. Located in southeastern Zimbabwe near the town of Masvingo, it was the capital of the Kingdom of Zimbabwe during the Late Iron Age, flourishing between the 11th and 15th centuries.
The site is best known for its impressive stone architecture—massive dry stone walls built without mortar, including the iconic Great Enclosure, which is the largest ancient structure in sub-Saharan Africa. These ruins reflect a sophisticated society with advanced knowledge of construction, trade, and governance.
